CCyB

Meaning

CCyB stands for Countercyclical Capital Buffer, a macroprudential policy instrument designed to ensure that banking systems hold sufficient capital to absorb losses during periods of stress. Although traditionally applied to conventional financial institutions, its principles are increasingly considered relevant for large, interconnected entities within the crypto ecosystem, particularly those offering institutional services. The CCyB aims to mitigate systemic risk by requiring institutions to build up capital during credit booms and release it during busts. This mechanism helps stabilize financial systems by reducing the procyclicality of credit supply.
