Computational Work

Meaning

Computational work, within the context of cryptocurrency, refers to the verifiable expenditure of processing power by network participants to solve a complex mathematical problem. This effort serves as the basis for Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanisms, where the solution demonstrates a commitment of resources. Its purpose is to secure the blockchain, validate transactions, and issue new units of the cryptocurrency, preventing double-spending and Sybil attacks.
