Financial Intelligence Units

Meaning

Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) are national agencies responsible for receiving, analyzing, and disseminating financial transaction information to combat money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), and other financial crimes. In the context of crypto, FIUs increasingly adapt their operational frameworks to monitor and analyze transactions involving digital assets. Their purpose is to identify suspicious activities within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, thereby safeguarding financial system integrity and enforcing anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations across jurisdictions.
