In-Kind Settlement

Meaning

In-Kind Settlement, in the context of crypto asset transactions, refers to the direct transfer of the underlying digital asset or another specified digital asset to fulfill a contractual obligation, rather than settling in fiat currency or an equivalent cash amount. This form of settlement is common in decentralized finance (DeFi), institutional options trading, and request-for-quote (RFQ) crypto markets, where positions or obligations are natively denominated in cryptocurrencies. It removes the need for fiat conversion, streamlining the process within a digital asset ecosystem.
