Rule 5310

Meaning

FINRA Rule 5310, titled “Best Execution and Interpositioning,” is a foundational regulatory mandate that requires broker-dealers to exercise reasonable diligence in ascertaining the best available market for a security and to execute customer orders in that market such that the resultant price to the customer is as favorable as possible under prevailing market conditions. While primarily governing traditional US equities and fixed income, its underlying principles are profoundly relevant to the architectural design of institutional crypto RFQ (Request for Quote) and smart trading systems, as it encapsulates the fundamental fiduciary duty of seeking optimal execution for client orders within the fragmented and diverse digital asset landscape.
