Systemic Gamma

Meaning

Systemic Gamma, in crypto options trading, refers to the cumulative gamma exposure of all market participants in a given underlying digital asset, particularly concentrated among market makers and large institutional traders. This aggregate measure indicates the potential for widespread delta hedging activities to amplify price movements in the underlying crypto asset. A high positive systemic gamma suggests market makers will buy into declines and sell into rallies, creating a stabilizing effect, while negative systemic gamma implies the opposite, potentially accelerating price swings.
