Mechanism
The operational mechanism of a Taker order involves the trading system matching the incoming order against the best available opposing order on the exchange’s order book. For example, a market buy order will immediately match against the lowest ask price, and if the order size exceeds that available at the best price, it will consume liquidity from subsequent higher ask prices until filled. This execution process directly reduces the liquidity available on the order book, hence the term “taker.”
